I finally picked up the film from the lab (shooting digital, it's totally out of habit for me to purposefully take a trip by the lab these days....)

Our vacation to Napa and Big Sur was the perfect time to bust out some pictures of my BEAUTIFUL wife and myself. As you can see, I love it when she kisses me! She's so hot! :-)

Ok ok, and yeah, there's some engagement pictures in there from our engagement shoot in Livermore!

Oh, and if you are ever in the Napa Valley, definitely try the Center Cut steak at Rutherford Grill... it really is to die for!!! Simply AMAZING!!!

I've been trying to pump out some pictures from our little vacation trip, but I'm working at a snail's pace right now, and there's a bunch of pictures.

Our little vacation (wine tasting and shooting)

Yep... we're finally taking some vacation time!

We were photographing a wedding this weekend in Mill Valley at the Outdoor Art Club and then shooting engagement pictures in Livermore, so we decided to stretch out our trip to northern California by visiting Napa and doing a bit of wine tasting. We found a great room at the Napa Marriott and have been LOVING our time here!!! Amazing wine, good food, and sleeping in! That's not a bad little vacation!

I've been shooting a bunch of pictures on my Holga... but since that camera shoots medium format film, I won't be able to share those until we get home.

In the meantime, here's a shot of the Culinary Institute of America Greystone Napa Campus. We stopped at the beautiful campus, but ended up trying a few other restaurants around the area. (Rutherford Grill serves an AMAZING center cut steak! Mouthwatering... over the top... I can't say enough good things about it!)

Shopping at Costco...

When I shop at Costco, I always tell myself, ok, I'm going to spend about $100-$150... that's it, that's all I need. But... I've never once walked out of there spending anywhere near what I'd planned on. (Yes, I tend to lie to myself before walking into Costco...)

Yesterday we went to Costco to buy some stuff, planned on spending $150... Walked out $350 later...

So, I was shocked as we stood in line, and I looked to my left, and this lady had a shopping cart with ONE!!!! item in it, and not something I'm thinking she saved enough money on to merit a trip to Costco. It was a small bag of almonds. I couldn't help but laugh, smile, giggle, wonder, and snap a quick picture.

A few local wedding photographers: Cheryl, Me, Andrew Van Gundy and Chris Johnson all headed out yesterday for a fun shoot around Santa Barbara.

I love getting out of the house/office every once in a while to freshen up on my photography focusing on something that I normally don't shoot.

We decided to head down to some industrial parts of Santa Barbara to see what a few wedding photographers could come up with in the fine-art realm.

I worked as a photojournalist for a few years back in the day at the Tehachapi News (a small hometown weekly newspaper).

The job was a BLAST! I'd just finished high-school and suddenly I had this awesome full-time job in a respected industry. I got to drive around, take pictures of stuff, and then see it in print once a week! too cool!

But, after a while I reaelized I couldn't do that full-time for the rest of my life! Showing up at accident scenes where someone had died, or where someone was seriously injured and their family was crying, I didn't get a kick out of shooting that stuff. Also, the pay cap on what you can make as a photojournalist is kinda low for my dreams...

So, I became a wedding photographer here in Santa Barbara! I haven't looked back, and I LOVE it! I went to Brooks Institute of Photography in the same town, Santa Barbara, and learned a TON about photography. (I like to tell people that I went to school for three years to learn how to push the button on a camera)

Just the other day I was reminded of how awesome it is to have the creative freedom I do in my job! I can take photographs and tweak them in Photoshop, I can remove unwanted things like houses, powerlines and other things that were beyond my control when I captured the picture, allowing me to make a good picture into a GREAT piece of art for someone's home!

As a photojournalist for a newspaper, there are a bunch of ethical rules you have to follow which don't allow you to tweak photos around too much...

Well, Allan Detrich was a photographer working at the Toledo Blade newspaper. He shot the following picture, which was tweaked in Photoshop to remove some legs from under a sign... He came under such scrutiny for what he did that he ended up quitting his job.

I'm sooo glad that I can add an extra tree to make something look better and people appreciate it.

Santa Ynez Photo Fieldtrip

I was hired to photograph Judy Beckmen of Beckmen Vineyards this week and had a blast cruising around her and husband's winery capturing portraits of Judy yesterday.

Judy's alamatar is doing an article on her and needed a photograph for their magazine. I guess they searched for Santa Barbara Photographer and found my wedding photography site, so they asked me to make the trip over the hill to meet with Judy.

It was an absolute blast getting to know Judy and seeing their BEAUTIFUL winery and vineyard! If you are ever wine tasting in Santa Ynez, definitely take the drive to their fun little piece of paradise!

Then, feeling inspired on my drive home I pulled off the 154 at Amour Ranch Road and scored some fun shots of the rolling hills and beautiful oaks with my 10D Infrared camera.

...can result in some fun sightings.

I was hiking with some guys from the Faroe Islands this week and we were talking about the different wildlife you would see day-to-day when hiking the mountains of Santa Barbara.

Twice I got stumped... we were talking about how with birds, the colorful/beautiful ones are the males, unlike us awkward looking human males... and then we saw a Blue Jay, and one of the guys asked if that was the male... it got me to thinking... I've always just looked at Blue Jays and never really wondered as to whether or not it was one sex or another. (anyone know by the way, if there is a visual difference between male and female Blue Jays?)

Then, we saw this little guy that I took a picture of. I can't for the life of me think of the right name for him... anyone know?

And finally, of course we saw some poison oak. There's a TON of this stuff out there right now. At this point though, I'm thinking I must be one of the 10% who are not effected by poison oak, because I swear I've touched this stuff a hundred different times and never seen the adverse results.

Being a wedding photographer I wish I was better at nature photography... but sadly I've attempted that route and didn't fair so well! ;-)

Yikes! I've always found it funny how smaller photographers can easily become dwarfed by their camera bags.

Well, Cheryl snagged this quick shot of me in Santa Barbara shooting engagment pictures for Courtney and Doug this past week and it's amazing how a nearly 200 pound man can disappear behind a camera bag! YIKES! (I think this might mean I need to get a rolling camera bag! Any suggestions??)

Courtney and Doug are getting married at the Firestone Vineyards in May and I'm super excited about their wedding!!!

Epic Hot Engagemet Session at Knapp's Castle

I had the chance to shoot the hottest couple this week for their engagement session! We headed up to Knapp's Castle on East Camino Cielo for some fun/elogant pictures!

We battled a rather large crowd of hikers/photographers, but ended up with some VERY epic shots!

Kyle and Debbie were the most AWESOME couple and we had a blast shooting with them!

Debbie has quite the fashion sense and was wearing some VERY fun stuff! Her dress is by Catherine Malandrino and she purchased it just for our shoot! Her shoes were by Christian Louboutin. (hehe, Kyle asked if I knew what any of this meant, I assured him I could appreciate the names) :-)

My pastor asked me recently to take pictures of our church to put on the new website that is being built.

I was shooting pictures of the pre-schoolers during their worship, and this little boy was just so poised in prayer! Wow!!

Santa Barbara Hiking

I am blessed to not only live in Santa Barbara, but also to be able to get out into the mountains and hike on a regular basis. (even more so now that I decided that in order to look like one of my my wedding photographer buddy's I need to be hiking every day to lose weight.) I've decided that as a wedding photographer it is important to be physically fit.

So, with this in mind, I've been hitting the mountains/hills of Santa Barbara for the past week pushing myself hard. I've made it my goal to hike up to the top of Cold Springs Falls/Tangerine Falls in the Santa Barbara Front Country several times a week. I hiked this three times last week, and made it up today.

I encountered one snake today (a TINY little thing, just a bit bigger than a pencil in diameter, and maybe 8-10 inches long) and saw what I just assumed were dog tracks. (but, I was reading on a hiking forum today about a recent mountain lion siting on the same trail, so when I hike this trail tomorrow I'll have to look a little more closely to see if maybe these were cougar tracks)

I hiked sans a t-shirt on the suggestion from my wife that I was getting to be a bit pale in color... YIKES!!

Local Santa Barbara Wedding Photographer Andrew Van Gundy AKA - "AVG," AKA - "The Wedding Photog," asked me to shoot some portraits of him yesterday for his new website, and for his girlfriend.

We took a quick trip up to Westmont to shoot in front of a very cool dilapidated house on the campus, shot a few head shots Zoolander style, and then some quick pictures to capture a bit of his personality!

Saturday our awesome friends David and Danielle took us for a sail on their sail boat in Santa Barbara!

It was such a beautiful day! (I think they were giving me a test run to see if I got sea sick. They we're trying to convince me and Cheryl that we should go with them on their next sail to the Channel Islands! And trust me, we'll definitely sign up for that trip!!!)

I was able to capture sooo many beautiful pictures on our trip! I can't wait to do it again!!!

Here's just a few of my favorites! I think I'll be posting up a slideshow just like I do with my wedding photography because there are too many pictures to share here.

Oh, and for anyone who was wondering about these pictures, they were all taken with my Canon 10d which I had converted to infrared by my buddy Brody Dezember. As a wedding photographer I love using this camera when I shoot weddings because it gives such a surreal effect!!

Held my first wedding photographer workshop

I can't believe I forgot to post about this!

I had the greatest time this past Saturday holding a mini-workshop of sorts for two fellow California based wedding photographers, Doug Miranda and Alex Robb.

Both of these guys had contacted me seperately saying they wanted to spend a day hanging out talking wedding shop, so I decided it was the perfect chance to do a tiny photography workshop here in beautiful Santa Barbara!!!

It was really cool to see where both of these guys are at and where they're headed!

Alex Robb was my high school photography teacher in Tehachapi, and he's wanting to supplement his income with wedding photography so that his wife can stay at home with their very cute daugther!!

Doug is moving up to Tahoe in April to open up shop in one of the most beautiful areas of California!

Both Doug and Alex attended my alamater Brooks Institute of Photography, so it was really fun to get together and share our "war" stories.

Prints to hang on our walls!!!

I'm really excited this week because we are finally hanging some of my wedding photography pictures on the walls of our house!

In nearly 2 1/2 years of owning my 1D MarkII camera, and shooting more than 300,000 pictures, I've only seen about 3 or 4 prints from my camera. All of my prints for my clients are shipped directly to them.... So it's VERY exciting to see all of these BEAUTIFUL prints being delivered!!

Another new album design!!!

Cheryl just finished yet another AMAZING album design for me! I can't wait to see this puppy in final form!

My buddy Shaun Austin just started an album company, In light Albums. I don't think he has a website up yet, but you can check out his camera store/online photo lab at InLightPhoto.com

Anyway, we designed this album specifically to try out his services and get a sample from them! I can't wait to share the final product with you guys!!!

I was interviewed for the KTLA Morning News

I was recently interviewed for the KTLA's morning news for Kurt the Cyber Guy's section.

Once again, they were curious about "public shaming" via videos on the internet, and my video of my kind old neighbor stealing my newspaper was once again the center of attention. So, I got up early, drove down to LA and explained my story for the camera.

I just got the prints in from my photo lab for my sample album and everything looks AMAZING!!!!

This album is going to be HUGE!! Can you say, "Two Volume"!!!! The album is 74 sides or 148 pages!!

I was on in Block Island, Rhode Island this past September helping my friend Jill Graziano photograph a wedding and the day after we cruised around the island and snapped a few pictures of each other!

I got soooo busy planning my own wedding after I got back that I never had a chance to share these pictures! I think this might be one of the few times where I've had the camera pointed at me and I don't feel like I look like an absolute dork! (amazing how the camera can lie!!!)

I've been cleaning up my hard drives and organizing all the files and I found this video that my buddy Zak Maeda (pro trials rider extrordinaire) made of me riding.

Believe it or not, I actually used to be a sponsored bike rider. I rode for Cannondale, Marzocchi, Uptime, SRAM/Gripshift, Magura and more.

It's been about a year since I last straddled my bike... but my buddy Zak recently asked me to meet him for a ride, so maybe I'll post up that video to show you guys how much difference a year off the bike has made. (amazingly enough, sometimes I'm more smooth when I haven't ridden in a while)

Computer Crash...

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up... My computer had a pretty fatal crash last night.

I am in the process of attempting to recover emails (everything else is safely backed up) So... if you're waiting for a reply to an email you sent to me, please shoot me another email in case I am unable to recover your notice.

Wine...

I was first truly introduced to wine about 2 and 1/2 years ago by my sister when she took my parents and I wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley.

On that trip, I couldn't stand ANY of the wines we tried!!!! AT ALL!!! But, I talked myself into buying two bottles of Firestone Riseling and forced myself to drink them with dinner over the next week or two.

Well, I don't know what was wrong with me back then, but now I LOVE LOVE LOVE wine. (I'm actually taking two classes on wines at SBCC right now! I thought I was signing up for lecture classes, but blow my mind, included in the class fees is TASTING at EVERY class meeting!!!) So, I'm taking one class which is the "Wine Intro" class, and the other is a class devoted to French wines. Too fun!

So, in attempting to expand my horizons on the topic, I ventured out onto the web for more info, and I came up with the most awesome wine video blog ever! Gary Vaynerchuk posts his reviews of wines DAILY (what an inspiration to me to blog more often!!!) (warning, if you're like me, you'll spend hours and hours working at your desktop while watching these videos on your laptop!)

Shlawna finally got married!!!!

Shlawna is an old friend of mine from highschool, so it was AWESOME to see her get married on January 19! (as a side note of sorts, it was hilarious that she set her wedding date purposely on the 19th because this is her favorite number!)

Her wedding was in Los Angeles at the LDS Temple. It was the perfect weather, not too hot and not too cold, so we had a chance to spend a pretty good amount of time cruising around taking pictures!

Engagement Sessions ROCK!

Engagement sessions are one of my favorite things to shoot! I LOVE shooting couples together having fun! And to top it off, I get the just hang out and get to know the couple, not just point a camera at them.

Just the other day I was able to meet Megan and Christo! What an awesome couple! I had a blast with them! They are both graduating from medical school and getting ready to start their residency. Wow... I picked their brains for at least an hour over lunch and I learned a TON! I thought residency was just something where you applied where you wanted to go, just like a job. Boy was I wrong... I'm really excited for them because it sounds like there are some pretty cool options for them with their residency!

I can't wait for Megan and Christo's wedding. They are getting married at the Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley, fairly near my old stomping grounds in Santa Rosa!

Christina and Steve's Wedding!!

Christina and Steve's wedding was sooo fun! Small weddings are cool because I usually get to spend a much higher percentage of the day alone with the couple just shooting pictures of the two of them!

We started out with a quick ceremony in the Mural Room at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. That room is a photo-shoot in-and-of itself! So fun and beautiful!

After the ceremony, Christina and Steve, along with my cousin (who spent the day as my second shooter) and myself, cruised over to Butterfly Beach for some sweet pictures on the sand!

Steve is a big game hunter/guide by profession. He and Christina met on safari he was guiding in Africa (Steve is South African) The two of them later spent a good deal of time in Africa together studying and documenting wasps which pollunate the Fig trees. I believe they might be releasing a book on the subject in the future! Christina actually went to my Ala Matar (Brooks Institute of Photography)

I'm such a computer geek that sometimes I realize that maybe I should be embarrassed... And I think this is one of those times.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has become a little side hobby that I'm trying to educate myself on (ok... I enjoy a TON of side hobbies... but this just happens to be one I spend too much time on for how little I know.)

Part of staying up on this for myself, I am constantly hitting Google and searching for Tim Halberg or Tim Halberg Photography.

The idea is, your own website with your namesake should pop up first... well, sadly, my former blog, which was hijacked several months ago by someone who is posting other people's pictures up, now comes up first when you search for my name. Weird, you'd think a search for Tim Halberg would get timhalberg.com to show up as the first result... scary. I just wish I could contact the guy and find a way to get that url back.

Saturday was another rainy day in Santa Barbara, meaning, another day of being couped up indoors. So Cheryl and I decided it was the perfect day for two photographers to take a photographic adventure to Ojai.

It was a great break from editing and working away in the office.

My New Bio...

Last night when I was introduced as part of the panel, Anna Costa of Michael Costa Photograpers (the folks who photographed my wedding!) read some little blurps about me for my bio. I was pretty excited, because I felt the style in which I was introduced was much more fitting to my personality than my existing bio on my website.

So... I've taken the basic ideas that she read, and I'm posting them here, because I want to see what you guys think about using something like this as my bio on my website:

I got a call today from Christine with "Money 101" on KNX 1070 radio. Turns out, they saw the article about me video taping my neighbor stealing my newspaper and want to interview me live on the air!

I wonder if I should have warned them that I speak SUPER fast!

If anyone wants to tune in and listen to me try and not make a fool of myself, I believe the interview will be around 10:15 a.m. on Monday morning.

Just got off the radio! lol, I guess there is a whole movement in society where people are publicly shaming each other on the internet. There are sites devoted to reporting bad drivers and such.

My video of my neighbor stealing my newspaper which I posted on YouTube seems to have caught on as part of this latest fad. Strange thing is, I just posted mine up to share with some friends! It's amazing how big YouTube is these days! I wish I'd have come up with that idea!!!

Wedding photographers and blogging

Tonight I had the opportunity to speak at the Santa Barbara Pictage Users Group (PUG).

We had a panel discussion for a group of about 20 fellow wedding photographers on the finer points of blogging! It was a great opportunity for myself to get ideas and inspiration for a few blogs I hope to launch in the next couple of weeks!

It was also a blast to share some of my geek knowledge! (I love anything techie, so speaking to questions about meta data and SEO definitely stoked me out!)

It was a bit intimidating being on stage with two amazing photographers! Sara France is an awesome and successful wedding photographer based out of San Diego. Amelia Lyon is my new inspiration! Her most recent post on her blog of her sister's wedding blows me away!

Sara and Amelia had some great insight into their blogs, their use of software based blogging programs and why they blog!

I had a blast and I hope everyone who attended walked away with some new knowledge!

It was really cool because there was at least one person in attendance who wasn't a wedding photographer, but wanted to learn about blogging for his personal training business! Adam Shipley of Fueled Sports Performance was on hand to learn a bit more on this topic as he prepares to launch his own blog! I can't wait to hear what he posts about! (especially seeing as I'm in the middle of trying to get my crazy self into better shape!)

Wow, after being featured in the Wall Street Journal last week for a video I published on You-Tube last year, I was contacted this week by a producer at ABC working on a similar feature for Nightline.

Tonight's Nightline ran a few clips from the video of my 50 year old neighbor (maybe even 60 year old) stealing my newspaper, hilarious!

I think I'm going to have to start video taping more funny things I see. Now if only someone would pick up on my buddy Blaine's mullet collection! That'd be brilliant to feature on TV! (I think he seriously has a collection of mullet pictures numbering in the thousands!!!)

I've been shooting quite a few engagements lately and having such a blast with them!

I had the chance to hang out with Amanda and Tim a couple of weeks ago, and just got around to picking out some of my favorite pictures from that day.

I'd always thought i was the only guy who got weirded out kissing when there was lipstick present, but I quickly found out that Amanda's Tim shared the same feelings as myself. :-)

We had such a fun time with these guys! I can't wait for their wedding! It's going to be at a private residence near the Regan Library! :-)

I'm looking to update my website with a few new weddings in the gallery section, and I need your input for what music to use.

I know I'm probably going to use something by Imogen Heap, I really wanted to try and use something by Regina Spektor, but the sound just didn't quite fit what I want.

My good buddy D is my go to man for when I need help, and he's suggested Colbie Caillat, and she has a pretty good sound, but I'm still looking for a few more options.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? I kinda want to keep with the same vibe that I've already got going, so if you haven't watched my slideshows recently, cruise into the weddings section of my site and check it out. (oh yeah, and I don't want another country song, it just fit for the one wedding because it was in Texas!) :-)

It feels sooo good (yet it hurts sooo bad) to excercise again!!! (if you read my newsletter then you know I'm trying to drop about 20+ pounds by April)

So, I started by running for about 5 or 6 days straight, then I've been hitting the gym every day this week.

The problem is, I'm torn between running, and circuit training in the gym.

Running seems like the no-nonsense way to lose weight, but everyone I keep talking to tells me that circuit training is the way to go.

At this point, I'm pretty sold on the gym. I seriously feel way more worked out after a good workout there than after a long run, and I feel like I can push myself more in the gym.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and the guy who's been pushing me to work harder in the gym is my buddy Andrew VanGundy (aka, AVG). He's a fellow wedding photog who's go the body that I think is my eventual goal! (is that weird for me to say about another guy?)

Anyway, I found a picture of him so people can give me their thoughts on the best way to achieve my goal!

And yes ladies, he is single ;-)

I had such a blast going wine tasting in and around Santa Ynez yesterday with a few of my friends! I gotta say, I do love wine tasting. I think we made it to five different wineries before the girls said they'd had enough (as Amy said on her blog, D and I were still ready to hit up a few more...)

Our crazy group included Amy Nave, her roomie Summer, the one-and-only Shyla Dalirifar my good buddy D (he was one of my groomsmen just about two-and-a-half-months back), my hottie of a wife Cheryl and Myself. :-)

The first winery we hit was Foxen. I LOVE that place!!! I don't usually find too many bottles of wine worth buying when I go tasting, but I always find something at Foxen. Though I think Shyla might have felt a little bit differently, because on her blog she said each time she tasted a wine there it was like faceplanting in the dirt. (They have some pretty decent Pinot Noir's in my humble opinon, and they can be a bit earthy) ;-)

Next we hit up Zaca Mesa. I hadn't tasted there, and I kinda doubt I'd make the stop there again. Nothing stood out to me, I'd lean toward saying their wines were just very blah... They did have a pretty fun little chess set that we created a fun group portrait with. (see pic above, I'm the one laying down)

Our third stop was Firestone Vineya rds. Firestone definitely isn't at the top of the list of wineries for me, but I am a member there (for the simple reason that I get free tastings for myself and my friends each time we stop in, so it easily pays for itself) I'm not a huge fan of the wines at Firestone, but their Riseling is a tough one to pass up, and the dessert wines are GREAT (but then again, where have I ever had a dessert wine I didn't like?)

At this point we were definitely ready for lunch, but we were told we had to stop at Curtis to try their dessert wine (I think the girls made a big deal at Firestone about how much they LOVED the dessert wines!) I usually skip Curtis even though as a member of Firestone you get free tastings at Curtis.

Next, Los Olivos Cafe. I assured the girls they could choose either a sandwich or salad here. (I'd never eaten there, but as a guy, I was pretty sure of this...) Well, they had some salads, and then a list of pizzas, TONS of wines, and no sandwiches. Oops... but we all enjoyed our own personal pizzas. They kinda reminded me of California Pizza Kitchen ones, but more posh...

After lunch (which we didn't finish until after 4 p.m.) we headed to one last winery, Daniel Gehrs, to taste some of their port. I do love a nice glass of port once in a while, and that's the only thing I've found worth buying at this winery, but wow, is it worth it. :-)

All-in-all we had a GREAT time. From the sounds of it, Shyla still isn't big on wine, but she did say she loved all of the yummy desert wines.

Wow... word travels fast!!!

Lol, my photography friend Joy Jensen just emailed me with a picture of her holding the Wall Street Journal with my picture on it, as she's sitting on a plane!!! :-) She said the flight attendant handed her the paper and the first thing she saw was my picture!

It happened, they put my picture in the Wall Street Journal.

No, it's not a feature article about my photography (maybe one day though!)

Actuall, the article is about how people are catching their fellow citizens in the act of breaking the laws, and basically enforcing the laws themselves by posting pictures and videos to the internet.

I guess Jennifer Saranow of the Wall Street Journal was working on this article when she came across a video on youtube that I posted of my previous neighbor stealing my newspaper.

Well, a few weeks ago, she called me and interviewed me about my little video and ended up sending a photographer to my house to take a few pictures of me re-enacting my little sneaky sneaky video efforts.

Inspired by my buddy Blaine, I saw this gnarly spider in our window the other morning and just had to take a picture of it eating! (Actually, Cheryl was the one who saw it first... I just borrowed her macro and went to town)

Spiders kinda creep me out, but being that I was inside the house shooting through the glass of our front window, I was pretty fearless!! :-)

What a year!!!

I'm soooo excited for 2007! My buddy Mark recently posted up about how with the new year comes a sense of a time for change/reflection and I have to say, I'm right there with him!

Not only have I done the required New Years Resolutions, but I've also been able to slow down a little bit and take a look at my business and see how I can make things run more smoothly for this next year!

I have a ton of fun weddings to share this year! I can't wait!!!!

Probably the BIGGEST news from last year is that I got married!!!

Now the coolest thing about getting married is buying each other gifts for Christmas! I've never in my life had soooo much fun shopping for someone besides myself! ;-)

And wow, did she go big shopping for me!! Hehe, she got me cooking lessons (I love to cook) and, she bought me a SWEET new BBQ!!! She even caught me in the act of putting the BBQ together while smoking a lovely cigar! :-)

I've been asked on soooo many occasions which camera I use, what lens I shoot with, what gear is the best, what books I read, what music I like and so on and so forth.

I don't mind in the least bit sharing this information, I actually love helping others who are getting started, or who are looking for some sweet toys to buy.

So far, I've been really slow in replying to people who ask these questions because I'm so busy helping my brides get the best photography and service possible.

But, thanks for the one-and-only Gary Fong and his AWESOME blog, I was able to find a way to not only share this information with everyone in a very simple format, I was also able to set it up so that everyone can buy anything that I LOVE using from the same page where I'm showing it to them!!

On Friday night I made the drive from somewhat Santa Barbara to Bakersfield for a very special wedding!

My little cousin Emily had her wedding Saturday and not only was I there because I was stoked to see her get married, but she also trusted me to be her photographer!

We had a blast taking pictures and it was fun to harass my family members with my camera! Not to mention taking pictures of my EXTREMELY cute niece and nephew!

This morning I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to the my cell phone ringing in my ear. It was my good buddy Michael Costa calling me to make sure I was up. We had a 6 a.m. rendevous time set for me to pick him up for one of our ongoing photo field trips (that sounds pretty lame huh?) (it really isn't... it's just a great time to go out and shoot for fun and work those creative juices!!)

This time we were in for a treat! The one and only Jose Villa was meeting Michael and myself in Solvang to take us on a photo safari sunrise shoot in and around the Santa Ynez Valley.

We had soooo much fun, and hanging out with these two amazing photographers was truly inspiring!

I can't wait to see what pictures they post up on their blogs!

Decorating for Christmas for the first time as a married couple has been fun!

It's crazy though, because we have a serious lack of ornaments! I remember growing up and taking for granted all the endless ornaments on my parents tree, all with meaning, down to the detail of the skirt around the base of the tree.

So, we have a little Charlie Brown style tree, and only one personalized ornament (I think we need to find a way to sneak our childhood ones out of our folk's homes this winter) which we got from Cheryl's mom for Christmas. So, the rest of our ornaments are the generic storebought silver balls along with a load of candy canes (great excuse to buy candy that we shouldn't have bought) ;-)

Then there's the fridge full of peanut-butter-balls!!! YIKES!!! Seriously, the belly is NOT getting any smaller this winter.

Wow... I had the most amazing conversation with Deyl Kearin and Mark Kuroda this morning over breakfast at Finestra Cafe!

Deyl is amazing with investments and was giving me some great insight into my own money matters.

I was truly inspired this morning to really get on top of owning and destroying my debt (which as a former Brooks student I have plenty of) so that I can begin to build investments in the future.

I went ahead and called all of my credit card companies and found out some really scary news... I've got INCREDIBLY high interest rates... it's amazing what they're able to charge for these things.

So, it's time to pay down the debt. I wish I could come up with something brilliant like the "One Red Paper Clip" guy who was able to start trading with one red paper clip, and without spending a dime, finally was able to trade for a house. Crazy thing is, it only took him 1 year and ONLY 14 trades to realize his goal. Brilliant! Who would have thought the idea of a neighborhood kids game "Bigger or Better" would equate to something so big!

Anyone want to trade me for a compact flash card case?

So my honeymoon was only (I know... I shouldn't say only...) about 11 nights long (it would have been an epic 2 or 3 weeks, but seeing as I shoot a wedding nearly every single weekend, I had to plan our honeymoon accordingly.

We got back on Wednesday night from our honeymoon (mind you this was several weeks back now) and on Saturday we were shooting a wedding.

The funniest thing at the wedding was that Cheryl and I see this dude who looks a lot like the pictures I've seen of Ansel Adams. And to top it off, the guy is shooting pictures with a little point and shoot digital camera. I couldn't but grab a few shots of him!

Life has been cruising along, and I've been ignoring the blog. So, here are two quick pics from today.

One, we just bought a new-to-us car (ie: used car)

Me and Cheryl both secretly (maybe even openly) had wanted a Toyota Tacoma for a while and so we decided it would be wise to sell both vehicles we own right now and buy a Tacoma. They're supposed to run for AGES without breaking down. (now the curious part is, that anyone who knows me well knows that this would be my 10th car. Being that I'm 26 years old, you can do the math. I don't usually keep cars more than a year) So, the fact that it runs for ages and people have told me on multiple occasions that this puppy will run for 300,000 miles, I don't think that will ever factor into my car owning equation.

And because it's Sunday and Cheryl and I had to be at church at 8 a.m. (we don't normally get up til closer to 10 a.m.) to prep for teaching Sunday school, it's been a lazy day around our house. So I tossed in a quick pic of Cheryl sleeping. We'll see how long it takes for her to read my blog and notice that I posted a pic of her.

We just got back from 12 days of splendid honeymooning in Cabo San Lucas!!! It was SOOOO relaxing! (I think it might be my first true vacation in like 2 years) (Cheryl wisely talked me out of bringing my laptop with me for the honeymoon. I was kinda freaked out about the idea of being away from email for that long [I figured out, without letting Cheryl know, that I could check email from my Blackberry. Sadly though, the Blackberry wouldn't check email while we were down there!!!] Thankfully, going cold turkey on email worked, it didn't bug me one bit!!)

I think we both decided that Cabo is pretty over rated. We both love an adventure, and experiencing something outside of our cultural norm, and Cabo was definitely not that. It was all totally tourist oriented. But regardless, we had such an amazing time together, relaxing, enjoying the warm (did I say warm???) waters of the Sea of Cortez, riding a waverunner down the coast, snorkeling, exploring on mopeds, and offroading in a rented jeep!!! :-)

We actually spent very little time taking pictures (I know, you were all expecting sooo much more from us, but come on!! this was our honeymoon!!!) :-)

On our first day exploring outside of Cabo we drove up to Todos Santos and explored some galleries there. We saw quite a few where Americans have moved down there and opened up shop with some of their locally inspired work, but the one gallery that truly stood out to us was that of Gabo. What an amazingly talented painter!!! I LOVE his modern abstract paintings and wish I could have purchased a few.

Gabo's wife sent us to their home where we met Gabo and he took me and Cheryl on a personal tour of his work space. He has a room with the most amazing light coming in through skylights! We spent a good portion of the day tooling around Todos Santos taking pictures of the town, sky, and each other.

The coolest part about being married definitely has to be that you get to use all of your wife's awesome nail files!! My nails have never looked so nice!!! :-)

Getting married is AWESOME!!!

My wedding day was sooo surreal! But I LOVED every moment of it! I can't wait to see all of the amazing pictures from my photographer Michael Costa!!!

In the meantime, I did manage to capture a few photos of my gorgeous bride walking down the aisle toward me!!! (though I will say, I was too nervous to get creative, unless you call firing off 8.5 frames per second on motor drive "creative")

For the second time in one week I got to go exploring with my camera.
The first time was on Monday with Cheryl(my fiance... soon to be wife!![two weeks!!!]) and the second time was yesterday/Thursday with my good buddy (and the dude who will be shooting my wedding) Michael Costa

We spent an hour or two in the industrial area of Santa Barbara taking in the surroundings and challenging our skills to create something. (craziest thing we saw was an industrial washing machine which can punch out something like 27tons worth of laundry in a single day!!!!! WOW)

It's crazy how you can start shooting, and be totally uninspired for the first 15-20 minutes, then all of a sudden it hits you and you're now in the "zone" or in the "moment" and it starts coming together. I love that about photography. It doesn't matter how uncreative I might feel, if I just keep shooting away, within a few minutes it always comes to me! :-)

We had a blast and were constantly showing each other the pictures we were getting. Hopefully Michael will have some pics from his camera on his blog soon as well!!

Jaime and Mark were sooooo awesome! I love it when I connect with my couples like we did! Their wedding day was absolutely perfect and beautiful. The coordinators were a bit pushy and stressed out, but Jaime was a champ, calm, fun and excited all day!

Weddings like this get me AMPED for my own wedding in just about two weeks!! I can't imagine shooting weddings every weekend and not catching the wedding bug at some point.

Oh, and they had a Catholic ceremony, and they brought their own priest. He was seriously the FUNNIEST (my highschool English teacher would kill me for using that word) priest I've ever seen! Totally awsome and fun ceremony!

Alright, I've got a TON of catching up to do with blogging some of my recent weddings, but in the meantime I just wanted to post up and share the photgraphs that I entered in tonights PPSBC(Professional Photographys of Santa Barbara County) photo competition.

It was an awesome turnout with some AMAZING photographs!!! Seriously, it was sooo great to see everyone's work and the caliber of what people are producing! I learned soo much from hearing the judges talk about their reasons for how they scored our images.

Tonight I learned that you're supposed to name all of your photographs that you enter in competitions. I always thought people just did that for fun, and I've never been really into it because I feel that my photographs should speak for themselves. But now I'm starting to understand the reasons behind naming your prints. :-)

Alright, so my big news for the night is that I won First Place in the Wedding category. I was super excited about that, and then even more amped when I received Best of Show for the night! :-) soooo exciting!!!

I was feeling extremely un-inspired today, so me and Jefferson Todd thought that was the perfect reason to take a few hours and go hike around San Clemente with our cameras and a 50mm 1.4 lens to see what we could come up with.

I had the opportunity to shoot Desiree and Mike's wedding at Firestone Vineyards and it was nothing but amazing!

This was the first wedding Cheryl and I were able to shoot together it quite a while and it was AWESOME. The best images you see here are hers!!! :-)

So I'm selling a ton of stuff on Craigslist right now. If you've never used craigslist.org you're missing out. I found the place I live in right now on Craigslist, I've sold all sorts of things on there, I've given away a few couches and washer and dryers on there. It's GREAT.

So, I was taking pictures of things to sell, and I was just snapping really quick shots, and I ended up with this:

I thought it was a pleasant surprise for a simple and almost pointless shot.

I know I still have more catching up to do on here with wedding pictures, but in the meantime, I thought I might just let everyone know that I got engaged today!!! I am soooo blessed and sooo excited!!! Cheryl is so absolutely amazingly beautiful, kind, caring and sooo sooo sooo much more!!!

Wow... I shot two weddings this weekend and I have to say, they were two of the BEST weddings ever!!!

Saturday was my first wedding this weekend, a very intimate event with just the bride, groom, his two kids, me and my second shooter and then the judge. When we arrived everyone was in the pool in the backyard, so of course, me and Mark hopped in the pool with everyone and began shooting some pretty sweet angles you could only get from the water.

Cheryl and Ken were the couple, and they were absolutely amazing and such a BLAST to hang out with. I'd have a hard time saying I was working because we literally were hanging out with them taking pictures. (I'll post these up later this week)

Today/Sunday was my second wedding of the weekend. My room-mate (well, he's married now, so former roomie) James Ryan Becker got married here in Santa Barbara and it really was just a perfect day! She rode in on a horse, he was happy as could be, and they were seriously just the most beautiful couple. I co-shot the wedding with Melissa Musgrove and we had such a blast! We couldn't go wrong with pictures of these two because they were so amazing!!!

We are home in the middle of two weeks of family vacations. We spent the first week with my girlfriend Cheryl's family in Yosemite, and we will be spending the next week at my aunt's cabin on the American River.

Makan and Anna's wedding was soooo fun! They had a beautiful and intimate ceremony atop the Santa Barbara Court House that I will never forget!

Ryan and Liz's wedding was absolutely gorgeous!!! Their wedding was on an island in the middle of the Kern River and was totally unforgettable.

I recently had the opportunity to hang out with Makan and Anna for a few hours before we did their engagement pictures. They both just completed their PhD's at UCSB this month and I am shooting their wedding at the courthouse this month as well!!!
